Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum assured today that her government will never allow violations of sovereignty and ratified the willingness to collaborate with the United States, but without subordination or interventionism.
«US President (Donald) Trump has his own way of expressing himself. First, there is dialogue at the moment and we will never allow sovereignty to be violated and, if it is violated, there is an entire people to defend their homeland,» he said.
In response to a question about whether she is afraid of the threats made by the president of the neighbouring country, Donald Trump, regarding mass deportations, tariffs and alleged intentions to place soldiers on Mexican territory, the chief executive categorically stated that she was not.
«I have a people who support me. When one has certainty and conviction and knows what one’s principles are, why should one be afraid?» she replied during her usual meeting with journalists from the National Palace.
On Washington’s designation of cartels as terrorist organisations, Sheinbaum clarified that Mexico fights organised crime and mentioned results, including last month’s record as the January with the fewest intentional homicides in eight years.
The dignitary emphasised that her government works every day to build peace in the country.
«Let there be no confusion. What we defend is sovereignty. They can call it what they want, but we defend sovereignty. So, if this decree has to do with extraterritorial actions, we do not accept them,» he warned.
In his opinion, if they make this decree to investigate even more in the United States the money laundering in that territory and the criminal groups that move there and make the sale of drugs happen, that’s fine.
«What we do not accept is the violation of our sovereignty. That is why it is collaboration, coordination without subordination, without interventionism, without meddling,» he stressed.
According to official figures, in just over four months the Mexican government arrested 11,600 people for high-impact crimes and seized 5,692 firearms, as well as 102 tonnes of drugs, including 1,210 kilograms and 1,266,000 fentanyl pills.
Sheinbaum’s administration, which began on 1 October, is implementing a security strategy based on four pillars: attention to the causes, consolidation of the National Guard, strengthening intelligence and investigation, and coordination with the states.
