Students from various educational centres in the municipality joined the Federation of Secondary Education Students (FEEM) during a ceremony held at the Raúl Corrales mixed centre, which brought together student leaders, former leaders, teachers, educational authorities and delegations from the territory’s student centres.

This joining constitutes the moment when a new generation assumes the pride and responsibility of belonging to the organisation. The FEEM renews itself each academic year with new ideas and new protagonists, so the ceremony was not limited to formalising incorporations, but signified the continuity of a history built by the generations that preceded it.

Speaking to those present was Kevin Marcos Delgado Álvarez, a former student leader, who recalled his time in the organisation, corresponding to the years of COVID-19, and the process of celebrating the FEEM’s fiftieth anniversary.

Delgado Álvarez related that his generation learned to attend classes from a screen and held virtual meetings that stretched until dawn. He also recalled that in that context the FEEM functioned as a space of resistance and collective organisation.

The former leader noted that the new members do not come to fill a vacant post, but to add their dreams to a project built by everyone. He called on them to incorporate their fears and doubts as part of the path and urged them to assume membership with commitment.

The ceremony also included a tribute to the organisation’s historical continuity, with the evocation of the words of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro, who pointed out that young people have in their hands the task of continuing the work of the Revolution. On that basis, the new members’ commitment to the homeland was reaffirmed, and it was stressed that each student will be a protagonist of that process.

The central remarks were given by Pablo Alejandro Rodríguez Curbelo, provincial president of the FEEM, who highlighted that the organisation renews itself annually with generations that contribute ideas, dreams and a willingness to participate.

The young man specified that joining the FEEM is not reduced to belonging to an organisation, but implies the opportunity to participate, contribute initiatives, represent one’s peers and help improve student life. He invited the new members to turn the organisation into a space where voices are heard and where each student contributes from their abilities and talent.

The leader recalled that the history of the FEEM has been built by several generations who left their mark, and that this history now continues in the hands of the newly joined. He called on them to live this stage with joy, responsibility and enthusiasm, to participate in every activity and not to fear proposing new ideas.

On behalf of the students who joined, Nelson Drey Rodríguez Guerra spoke, describing the day as a special moment and the beginning of a new stage in his student life. He noted that joining the FEEM represents the opportunity to participate, express ideas and share with peers, but also implies assuming responsibilities.

Rodríguez Guerra stated that the new members aspire to be active students, to participate in the organisation’s activities and to represent with respect and commitment those who placed their trust in them. He acknowledged that the FEEM has a history built by many generations and that it now falls to the new members to continue it in their centres and municipalities.

On behalf of everyone, he ratified that they assume this moment with joy, enthusiasm and a willingness to learn, and advocated that their voices be heard while they learn to listen to those of their peers.

As a record of their incorporation, each of the new members present signed the organisation’s entry book, a gesture that symbolised their commitment to the FEEM.

Present at the ceremony were Madeley Sánchez, deputy general director of Education in the province; Yaniris Luis Machado, first secretary of the UJC; Dariel Acosta Peláez, first secretary of the UJC in the municipality of Ciego de Ávila; Ever Sarduy, director of the Raúl Corrales mixed centre; and Pablo Alejandro Rodríguez, provincial president of the FEEM.

Also in attendance were student leaders, former leaders of the organisation, teachers and guests, together with the delegations from the student centres.
