Hurricane Beryl will cause showers and showers at intervals today in the western region of Cuba, which may be heavy in some localities, the Meteorological Institute’s Forecasting Centre reported.
As it passes along Cuba’s southern coast, there may also be strong storm surges on the south coast, with the probable occurrence of light coastal flooding in low-lying areas.
The meteor will not directly impact the national territory, but heavy rains are expected, mainly in Isla de la Juventud and Pinar del Río, which is why actions are being carried out in different places to preserve human lives and material goods, according to the Granma newspaper.
On Wednesday afternoon, Hurricane Beryl continued its rapid movement to the west northwest, with a speed of 31 kilometres per hour, moving very close to the southern coast of Jamaica.
It continued to weaken over the past few hours to a maximum sustained wind speed of 220 kilometres per hour, with higher gusts and a minimum pressure of 959 hectopascal, although it remains an intense category four hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson scale of a maximum of five.
