The Mariel Container Terminal, in the province of Artemisa, clarified in a statement on Saturday that audio clips circulated on social media about an alleged emergency and closure of port operations were false, confirmed by the institution itself and the General Customs of the Republic on their Facebook profiles and institutional websites.
Management at the entity reported that operations proceeded normally, without interruptions or accidents, and asked users to always verify information on official sources to avoid confusion.
The institution recalled that images and videos showing the usual activity of ships at the dock have been published on its digital sites, as part of the transparency policy towards clients and the public.
The Mariel Container Terminal was created by decision of the Cuban State as part of the Mariel Special Development Zone project, to provide the country with modern and competitive port infrastructure.
Its construction responded to the need to take advantage of the strategic location of Mariel Bay in Artemisa province, and to turn it into a regional logistics hub capable of receiving deep-draught vessels, including Neo-Panamax ships.
Regarding its functions, the Terminal is dedicated to comprehensive container operations, including cargo loading and unloading, storage, consolidation and deconsolidation, repair and maintenance of refrigerated units, as well as inspection and fumigation services.
Furthermore, it constitutes a key transhipment point in the Caribbean, facilitating the connection of international maritime routes and guaranteeing the continuity of port operations with security and efficiency standards officially recognised by the Government of Cuba.
