He took third place, Rojas was fifth and Izquierdo seventh to keep Cuba sixth in the team standings.
The cyclist José Domínguez managed to get on the podium in the fourth stage of the Vuelta a Chiriquí 2024, a goal that the Cuban squad had very close in the previous stages of the event based in Panama, by always including representatives in the top 10.
Domínguez came third, only surpassed by the Costa Rican Jason Huerta (Marriot) and the local star Franklin Archibold (Panama Cultura y Valores), a duo that in the last lap of the 20 programmed to the circuit of this Sunday escaped from the main bunch to negotiate in that order the 82 kilometres in 1:50.00 hours.
The Havana rider crossed the finish line with three other riders 36 seconds later, including Jorge Rojas from Espiritu, who from the beginning of the day threatened several times to make a breakaway together with Randol Izquierdo from Avilejo, secured in seventh place.
Izquierdo was in the lead of the multicoloured «ball» of 52 riders, who arrived at the finish line 40 seconds behind the Costa Rican hero on Sunday.
In the large group were included with the same time the other Cubans: Vicente Sanabria (42), Joselín Piedra (44), Ricardo Cardoso (47) and Yariel de León (49). All contributed to the collective work to keep Cuba in an outstanding sixth place.
The distinguished veteran from Yumur, Sanabria, thus managed to defend sixth place in the overall individual classification and the same difference of 2.40 minutes of the Panamanian David Diaz (Rally Grant), who continues as absolute leader, now with 11:45.49 hours in 503.5 km accumulated.
In the general classification, Dominguez and Izquierdo are in 13th and 17th place, respectively, as well as De Leon in 24th, Piedra in 33rd and Rojas in 37th.
The young Cardoso is in 66th place, however, after some poor performances at the beginning of the tour, he is fighting for the collective and units for the points prize, proof of this were the two third places he took on Sunday in the packs disputed on turns 10 and 15.
In that classification Domínguez appears ninth (14 points), Izquierdo fifteenth (10) and Rojas nineteenth (6). In the under-23 category, the two Cubans involved improved one place, Dominguez is now sixth and Izquierdo is eighth.
This Monday the peloton, made up of riders from Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Mexico, the United States and locals, will ride a 122.4km route of high mountains, which includes three flying goals and then the prize in the mountains at 84.7.
