Cuban women have left an indelible mark on the history of the nation. To speak of women is to speak of tenderness, delicacy, love; but it is also to speak of mambisas, guerrilla fighters, internationalists, good wives, unconditional mothers and loyalty to the homeland.
Guided by Marti’s thought that «Homeland is humanity», the women of this island, with their humble and selfless effort, have taken hundreds of human beings out of darkness, bringing them health and education to the most remote places in the world. They are moved only by internationalist duty and the absolute conviction to follow the example of those who died yesterday to see the heavens happy.
A loving smile can be seen on the faces of thousands of Cuban women who light up every dawn in this land and who are proud to be part of a society that truly respects their rights.
What would become of Cuban women without a Socialist Revolution? Surely many would die for lack of medical assistance during childbirth, or would be submerged in ignorance, prostitution, or perhaps subjected to the cruelest humiliations as happens in many Latin American countries.
To Cuba’s joy, here women participate in state tasks, and are an indissoluble part of this great work that has been built with all and for the good of all.
So to you, woman who glorify the name of the country with your daily actions, and who give, without asking for anything in return, your loving hands to build the future. To you, who do not faint in the face of adversity, who defend your sky and your flag. To you, who every day we know you are stronger, every day more dignified, every day more revolutionary, receive on this 23rd of August, our respect and infinite gratitude.
