Although everyone is aware of the great physical effort required to plant and cultivate sugar cane, for this mulatto-skinned woman with a spontaneous smile, her integration into the fields of the blessed plant is comforting.
Both she and her husband, united by ties of understanding and love since the end of the 20th century, found it very stimulating when the management of the agricultural production cooperative Panchito Gómez Toro in the municipality of Majagua proposed that they join this Anapista institution.
Here, both Yanelis Gutiérrez Zamora and Víctor Moragas Castillo are part of the protagonist role of this collective, which among its major efforts is to strengthen the main economic objective of sugar cane production, and among the 12 members of the two brigades, the woman from Santiago, the only woman in the group, manages to stand out.
Yanelis tells us that since she joined Victor in his native eastern region, they acquired a usufruct farm to grow coffee, but neither that work, nor the charcoal, nor the poultry breeding, made her feel as good as cutting the sugar cane seed and moving it to the furrows.
The performance of this mother of four is admired by the members of the collective, and although some make great attempts to follow her, they always find it impossible.
Among Yanelis Gutiérrez Zamora’s household chores, she prefers cooking when it comes to making delicious tamales, congrí and macho asado, and she also loves to enjoy a good television drama where love is the main ingredient.
Among her greatest wishes are: that her four children continue to excel and she looks forward to the arrival of the harvest, because as in the sowing and cultivation, her determined contribution can also be useful. This is certainly a great challenge for the combine operators.
