XV Havana Biennial: An Encounter with Art in the Heart of the City

Until 28 February 2025, various works of art will embellish the Cuban capital in a new cultural proposal that includes photographic exhibitions, sculptures and audiovisual productions, inviting us to reflect on today’s world and the alternatives we can build.

With the arrival of the 15th Havana Biennial, the city once again becomes the epicentre of contemporary art. Over the decades, the event has established itself as one of the most important on the international art scene.

During these days, artists from all over the world converge in this initiative of the city’s cultural contour, from different modalities of creation such as performance and workshops with the community, to exhibitions in galleries and the placement of works and videomapping projections in public spaces.

In this context, art becomes more than mere works displayed in galleries. The Havana Biennial is the perfect space to connect, co-create, collaborate and, above all, to weave the threads that unite us as a community, under the motto «Shared Horizons».

The Havana Malecon, the Paseo del Prado and the Plaza de Armas are three of the main circuits where art seeks to integrate with the daily life of this vibrant city.

«Detrás del muro» offers another cultural dimension to the common areas. Its programme persists in the intention of taking art out of its traditional areas, approaching inhabited places and leading socio-cultural transformation.
At the same time, the curiosity and amazement of the public have privileged spaces in the Plaza Vieja with the work Nube de madera-La arquitectura de los deseos, by the German artist Martin Steinert.

Another landmark in the urban fabric is the work Frozen Fire by Korean artist Han Sungpil. With extensive canvases, the artist covers the building next to the Payret cinema, alluding to the aftermath of forest fires and nature’s capacity for renewal.

May each image captured during these days be a reflection of the diversity, beauty and complexity of contemporary art. This celebration not only invites us to contemplate works of art, but also invites us to be an active part of a process of collective creation.

Each visitor takes with them not only images and memories, but also a spark of inspiration that will last long after the days of the Biennial are over.
