The State Workers Association (ATE) of Argentina will today hold a national day of struggle and a mobilisation in the capital’s Plaza de Mayo to denounce possible dismissals at the end of this month.
These actions were approved during a plenary session held in this city with the participation of more than a thousand delegates and the day before it was known that affiliates of the Union of Workers of the Popular Economy will also participate.
The members of these groups will reject the policies of President Javier Milei and will try to prevent further layoffs in the public administration.
Recently, the secretary general of the ATE, Rodolfo Aguiar, accused the government of declaring war on the salaried workers and affirmed that the executive cannot disguise the loss of popular support.
«We will not tolerate one more illegal dismissal. If this state still provides services, it is thanks to the almost superhuman effort and sacrifice of its workers throughout the length and breadth of the country,» he said.
«After the presentation of the Budget 2025, there is no doubt that the adjustment will be deepened in the provinces and municipalities. On this occasion, the strike should be of a general nature and include all areas. Hundreds of thousands of state employees have been impoverished in recent times,» he added.
He also urged to strengthen unity and recalled that former president Mauricio Macri (2015-2016) was not re-elected because he lost in the streets.
During the day of struggle, there will be a work stoppage, withdrawals from workplaces from noon and a popular pot in front of the Casa Rosada, while each of the provinces will define the modality of the demonstrations in their territories.
According to the ATE, on the 30th the contracts of 65,000 people expire, which had been renewed for only three months and the government plans not to extend them.
