The winners of the Golden Age 2023 contest, organized by Gente Nueva Publishing House, will be awarded today at the 32nd Havana International Book Fair, which is held at the San Carlos de La Cabaña fortress.
Every year, the award recognizes the most outstanding Cuban writers for children, adolescents and young people, and this year’s winners were Juan Farol, by Claude Nogueras; El diario asombro, by Idiel García; and El futuro de los astros, by Claudia Damiani.
During the day they will also launch the call for entries for the 2024 contest, the oldest one that rewards the best of children’s and young people’s literature made in Cuba.
At 2:00 p.m., in the Jose Antonio Portuondo Hall, the Cuban publishing house Ediciones Cubanas, part of Artex, Promociones Artísticas y Literarias, will present the novel El más suave de todos los veranos, written by Francisco Lopez Sacha, to whom this edition of the fair is dedicated.
The II Meeting of Public Policies in Favor of Reading will take place, with the development of the panel «XX anniversary of Redplanes». Regional public policies for books and reading, with the participation of Jeimy Esperanza Hernández, Jeferson Assumção, coordinator of the National Reading Plan Brazil, and Enrique Pérez Díaz, director of the Cuban Book and Reading Observatory.
At the Cuba Pavilion, the provincial chapter of the Havana Book Fair will continue with the expo-sale of texts, the oral narration space Cuéntame un cuento, casino workshops and the space La Tertulia del Armario, hosted by Alberto Hernández.
That same stage will host the XIII International Meeting of Young Writers of Ibero-America and a recital dedicated to Venezuelan poet Caneo Arguinzones on the tenth anniversary of her death, with guests Liset Prego, Erian Peña, Yanaris Valdivia, Yadián Carbonell, Wilfredo Robas, Tomás Escobar, troubadour Lay Verdecia, among others.
While in Casa de las Américas they will exhibit in the virtual modality the book Chile al desnudo. La historia del Chile contemporáneo y los antecedentes del estallido social de octubre de 2019, by Luis Corvalán Márquez, as well as other volumes of the Editorial del Consejo Latinoamericano de Ciencias Sociales (Clacso) such as Las fracturas del mármol. Heroicidades latinoamericanas a contrapelo, coordinated by Mónica González García, Sarah Moody and Astrid Santana Fernández de Castro.
At the Dulce María Loynaz Center, Editorial Pueblo y Educación will present the magazine Educación de 2023, the title Por una educación crítica y participativa, by Frey Betto, and Ediciones GEOSI, from Geocuba, will propose the multimedia Rompecabezas cartográfico. The first villas in Cuba.
And the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela invites to the exhibition of Resistencia Mediática en tiempos de Comunicación Política Digital: caso La Iguana TV, by Miguel Ángel Pérez Pirela, at the Che Guevara Hall of the Cuban Institute of Information and Social Communication.
Scheduled until February 25, the XXXIII International Book Fair has as its guest of honor the Federative Republic of Brazil.
