This also closed the segment dedicated to selecting the talents that will be evaluated by representatives of foreign leagues.
The western tryout held its second and final day on Sunday at the Victoria de Girón Stadium in Matanzas, where 63 talents under the age of 23 showed their skills to experienced coaches.
The two controlled tests on Sunday dealt with defence (infield work) and VIP like (resemblance of a real game inning with tasks), in which pitchers exhibited several of their deliveries and batters their contacts and power with wood at the ready.
At the same time, this day closed the segment that also saw actions in Santiago de Cuba and Villa Clara, with players from the Eastern and Central zones, respectively, and Havana, which hosted the demonstrations of the capital.
«This is my second tryout participation. There were good demonstrations by the receivers and I think I met the required tests. I dream of being called up for the final in Havana,» Yadier Ruiz, a member of the Cuba under-18 team, told JIT.
Meanwhile, Yunior Zayas, in charge of the tryout as a director of the Cuban Baseball and Softball Federation, said that they carried out very precise controls of all the tests planned in each zone.
«We have seen a lot of talent in the position players and in the group of 23 pitchers called up. I also congratulate the coaches who conducted the tests and reflected their evaluations,» he commented.
«It only remains for us to tabulate everything we have done to choose the best, so that they can be presented at the final tryout, which will be held in the capital’s Estadio Latinoamericano, on the 28th and 29th, with the presence of representatives from several foreign clubs,» concluded the director.
