Venezuela would continue contracts with foreign companies despite the US

Executive Vice President Delcy Rodriguez said that Venezuela is ready today to continue fulfilling the contracts with the companies whose licences were revoked by the Trump administration in the last hours.

In a message posted last night on her Telegram account, the vice-president reported that they maintained «fluid communication» with transnational oil and gas companies operating in the country that were notified in recent hours by the US government «about the revocation of their licences».

«We were prepared for this situation and we are ready to continue fulfilling the contracts with these companies, within the framework of the Constitution of the Republic and Venezuelan law,» she said.

The oil minister said that as «we have always maintained, international companies do not require a licence or authorisation from any foreign government, given that Venezuela does not recognise or apply any extraterritorial jurisdiction whatsoever».

She reaffirmed that the Bolivarian Republic is «a reliable partner and we will continue to comply with the agreements reached with these companies».

Rodríguez stated that the Hydrocarbons Engine is activated and the Absolute Productive Independence Plan, ordered by President Nicolás Maduro, «continues its course and will remain open to all national and international investments for the development of this strategic sector».

In the last hours, international media revealed that Trump revoked the licensing permits granted to oil companies operating in Venezuela such as the American Global Oil Terminals, the French Maurel et Prom and the Spanish Repsol.

The ruler of the North American nation weeks ago annulled License 41 that allowed Chevron to operate in this South American nation and gave permission until 27 May as a deadline for the US entity to suspend its ties with Venezuela, after more than a century of operations.

At the beginning of March, the Bolivarian Republic activated the Absolute Productive Independence Plan to confront the sanctions against the US company Chevron.

This government initiative was ordered by Maduro with the aim of ensuring that the «hydrocarbons industry and the country’s economy continue their stable and diversified recovery», a statement said.

The note pointed out that the new US government succumbed «to pressure from failed and defeated opposition sectors in Venezuela, by definitively sanctioning the US company Chevron».

The president assured that with the punitive measure «not a litre, not a barrel of production will fall, on the contrary, oil production will be maintained and will continue to grow», and that no one will be able to blockade the country.
