The international community has sent more than 500 tonnes of supplies to Venezuela to address the emergency caused by the earthquakes that struck the country last Wednesday, with a toll of more than 1,400 dead and thousands affected, Venezuelan authorities reported.

These contributions include medical supplies, specialised equipment and assistance personnel.

According to information provided by acting president Delcy Rodríguez, the country has received support from 24 countries of the international community, «which have sent 521 tonnes of supplies, 86 canine teams and more than 2,741 search, rescue and support personnel, who are already integrated with our teams.»

Each international brigade has been assigned to specific zones, following international emergency protocols, which allows operations to be expedited and efforts to be coordinated between the national and international committees that chart intervention routes.

The earthquakes caused power cuts in several areas of La Guaira. Although some sectors have already recovered service, authorities are maintaining preventive suspensions to avoid the risk of short circuits in collapsed buildings, where people with vital signs are still reported trapped.

In parallel, private telecommunications companies are working to restore fibre optic services. During the day, progress in connectivity was observed, allowing many citizens to communicate with family members, although coverage remains irregular depending on geographical location.

The situation continues under constant monitoring, while national and international teams reinforce rescue and recovery tasks in the areas hardest hit by the earthquakes.
