Scientific facility management highlighted

In the balance of the work objectives of the Center for Environmental Engineering and Biodiversity (CIBA) of Ciego de Avila, located in Morón, the work of this institution, a national reference for its contributions to economic development in priority sectors such as agriculture and tourism, and the promotion of renewable energy sources, was praised for more than three decades.

Doctor in Sciences Maritza García García, president of the Cuban Environment Agency (AMA), appreciated the charisma and cohesion in the CIBA collective, as well as the capacity to transform itself -without losing its essence- after adopting a new name at the end of 2022, when it ceased to be the Biofood Research Center to assume the current name, which implies diversifying its social purpose, a challenge they face without difficulties.

He highlighted the participation of the scientific facility and its staff in international projects such as Coastal Resilience, Euroclima Plus, Mi Costa and Sustainable Tourism, aimed at confronting climate change and reducing vulnerability to natural disasters.

This research center leads projects related to the rehabilitation of coastal dunes in the Jardines del Rey tourist destination and the integrated management of the Great Northern Wetlands of Ciego de Avila, in addition to conducting studies on hazards, vulnerabilities and risks.

In addition, we provide numerous services, such as the extraction of invasive exotic species, the thinning of canals in fragile ecosystems, and the preparation of diagnoses and documents for environmental licenses; we also provide technical assistance for the treatment and use of waste and the production of renewable energies.
