SANTIAGO de Cuba defeated Industriales 10×7 to become the third qualifier to the post-season of the 63rd National Baseball Series.
The Indomitable Wasps had three home runs from their third bat and designated hitter Yoelkis Guibert – he reached 15 in the tournament – who drove in seven runs. There was also a home run by Francisco Martínez.
Wilber Reyna’s fourth win, despite allowing nine hits in 5.2 innings. The capital’s Leones hit 17 hits, but were unproductive with a wood at the ready.
Meanwhile, in a duel of teams qualified for the play-offs, the host and leader Pinar del Río left Granma, which committed three errors, on the field 3×2 in the tenth inning.
Seventh win for reliever Yancarlos García, who pitched a pair of immaculate innings, with three strikeouts. For the Vegueros pinareños, William Saavedra went 4-3, with a double.
And Guantánamo beat Isla de la Juventud in the doubleheader and moved to within half a game of the longed-for eighth place occupied by Sancti Spíritus.
First, the Indios del Guaso won 9×7 with five runs by Leonelkis Escalante. They then came out on top 8×5, supported by five RBIs from Robert Luis Delgado, to underpin Enyer Fernández’s eighth win.
He equalled the lead in that department enjoyed by Osdenis Rodríguez (VCL) and Dachel Duquesne (CAV).
In other results, Ciego de Avila won 11×4 against Mayabeque, Villa Clara 5×4 against Cienfuegos and Sancti Spíritus 10×0 against Holguín.
In addition, Camagüey led Matanzas 13×8, despite Yumurino José Amaury Noroña’s 18th home run, which allowed him to catch Alfredo Despaigne (GRA) at the top of that section.
The Artemisa-Las Tunas game was not played due to rain.
