Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel held official talks today with His Highness Sheikh Mohamad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Emir of Abu Dhabi.

During the meeting, both parties noted the good state of relations between the two countries and the willingness to continue strengthening bilateral political dialogue, said the Cuban leader himself on his account on the social network X, formerly Twitter.

Díaz-Canel added that during the conversation they expressed interest in expanding and diversifying economic, trade, investment and cooperation ties.

In this sense, they pointed out the potentialities that exist in areas such as biotechnology, renewable energy sources, tourism and agriculture, among others.

The Cuban president has been in the UAE since yesterday, where he will carry out an official working visit and will participate in the 28th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28) on behalf of the Group of 77 and China.

This is the first official visit of a Caribbean nation’s president to this country, who is accompanied by Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez, as well as representatives of other ministries, institutions and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Cuba and UAE established diplomatic relations on March 18, 2002 and since then the ties have been characterized by the willingness to take economic and trade ties to the high level reached in the political and diplomatic fields.

The two countries show coincidence of positions in international forums, in addition to having a mutual interest in taking advantage of potentialities in several branches of the economy and in sectors such as culture and health.

The official visit of the Cuban head of state represents an important step in bilateral relations and opens a new stage in the closeness between both nations.
