National anti-crime and anti-illegalities exercise launched

The national exercise of prevention and confrontation of crime, corruption, illegalities and social indiscipline began this Monday throughout Cuba; this was announced at a meeting held at the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, headed by President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez.

«We are going to carry out a necessary exercise, I would say timely, and as a continuity of a whole group of actions that we have been developing integrally in these times, especially after the call made at the 8th Plenary Session of the Central Committee and the discussion we had at the last session of the National Assembly of the People in July,» said the first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba.

It is an exercise,» he said, «that falls between two historic dates that raise the patriotism of the country, and which are also dates of combat (the second and seventh of December). Therefore, this is also an exercise in revolutionary combat to confront the negative tendencies that exist in our society.

«It is a comprehensive exercise, with popular participation and control, which strengthens the unity of our people and is aimed above all at confronting manifestations of corruption, crime, illegalities, social indiscipline, anti-social attitudes or anti-social behaviour, tax evasion, inadequate relations and distortions that may exist between the state sector and the non-state sector, everything that affects the tranquillity of citizens, against abusive and speculative prices».

Regarding the national exercise, the dignitary expressed that it is also «a moment to work, in a political manner and with differentiated attention, with those who are disconnected from study and work».

Continuing to list negative trends, the Head of State mentioned the illegal use of land, and spoke of the need to work «for the regulation of land use». He emphasised that «this is a very important and wide-ranging exercise, and we have been preparing for it with great precision».
