Genocidal Actions of Secretary of State Against Cuba Denounced

Carlos Fernández de Cossío, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, today denounced, from his profile on social media, the genocidal actions of the United States Secretary of State against the Cuban people.

«The world’s greatest economic, technological and military power is not satisfied with imposing a collective punishment on the entire Cuban people, and depressing the level and living conditions of the whole population to induce a humanitarian crisis,» wrote Fernández de Cossío.

The diplomat noted that, faced with the political and moral isolation of that aggression, Washington devotes vast resources to pressuring governments around the world to change their traditional position demanding an end to the abuse and the crime.

«The US Secretary of State is strutting from country to country and telephoning leaders in a desperate effort to intimidate, blackmail and promise carrots to governments of all latitudes,» denounced the Deputy Minister.

He stressed that the goal, in the year of the greatest reinforcement of the economic war, is to blame the attacked, discredit the victim and thus try to change a position that the international community has historically and unmistakably maintained in rejection of the economic, commercial and financial blockade.

The denunciation is framed in the context of the extreme tightening of the blockade imposed by the US, aggravated by the energy siege, and in the obstinate conduct of the current administration, contrary to international law, which prevents it from recognising the opportunities for mutual benefit that could derive from a policy of good neighbourliness with Cuba.

The recent economic and social transformations on the island are aimed at favouring foreign investment as an essential part of national development.

Legal frameworks and the Portfolio of Business Opportunities have been updated, with projects in strategic sectors such as energy, tourism, biotechnology and agriculture, which demonstrates the will to open spaces for mutually advantageous cooperation and to move towards a more flexible and diversified economic model.
