Díaz-Canel: Cuba once again defeated the neighbouring empire

Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel said today that his country has once again defeated the neighbouring empire, referring to the results of the UN vote against the blockade imposed by the United States.

The head of state said in his X account that, despite the broad support (187 votes in favour) expressed for the island, the United States «will surely ignore the world’s demand with arrogance, but the dignity of this people and universal solidarity have defeated it once again».

«The little David has once again defeated the giant Goliath», the president stressed.

To its policy of blockade against the noble and supportive people of Cuba, said Díaz-Canel, the US government adds an additional infamy: «once again it is accompanied in the negative vote by Israel, the genocide of Gaza. Shameful and double criminal record». Through the social network, Prime Minister Manuel celebrated the resounding victory of the Caribbean nation at the United Nations General Assembly.

Marrero assured that his country will continue to raise its voice to demand an end to the blockade and thanked the international community for its broad support.

For his part, Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez affirmed that the US government has been isolated once again, «in the face of this overwhelming condemnation to put an end to the genocidal and obsolete blockade that does so much harm to the Cuban people».

The UN General Assembly adopted on Wednesday, with 187 votes in favour, two against and one abstention, the thirty-second resolution demanding an end to the US blockade against Cuba.

The US and Israeli delegations voted against, while Moldova abstained.

The resolution calls on states to refrain from enacting and enforcing laws and coercive measures, in accordance with their obligations under the UN Charter and international law, which, among other things, reaffirm the freedom of trade and navigation.
