Politicians, academics and experts from different parts of the world will share a common space in Cuba today to analyze global imbalances and the need for a New International Economic Order (NIEO).
Convened by the Progressive International and the National Association of Economists and Accountants of Cuba, the Congress will be the second of its kind in Havana, after the one held in January 2023 under the auspices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Minrex) of the host country.
Cuba’s National Capitol will make one of its hemicycles available for the event, from April 29-30, on the eve of the 50th anniversary of the adoption by the United Nations General Assembly of the declaration and program of action on the establishment of the NOEI.
That event was a milestone in the struggle of the countries of the South for international economic justice and for their development, the Minrex recalled on its website.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the forum that will begin on Monday is aimed at promoting dialogue on the problems that hinder development and world peace, as a consequence of an unbalanced international economic, political, scientific-technological and military order with hegemonic preponderances.
In its final declaration, the first Congress noted in January 2023 that the current vision of the NOEI can only be realized through the collective action of the South and the formation of new and alternative institutions to share critical technology, address sovereign debt, leverage development finance and jointly confront future pandemics.
