Cuba sweeps Norceca U-23 Beach Volleyball Championship

Both pairs won the titles undefeated.

The Cuban pairs won the gold medals undefeated in the Norceca U-23 Beach Volleyball Tournament of Dominican Republic 2023.

Noslen Diaz and Jorge Luis Alayo, and Amanda Armenteros and Maykelin Drik, secured with their victories the Island’s tickets to the II Junior Pan American Games of Asuncion 2025, in Paraguay.

Diaz and Alayo defeated the Americans Tate Calles and Brendan Onishchenko in the final in easy scores of 21-15 and 21-13, in only 29 minutes.

The bronze medal went to Canadians Tynan Gannett and Steven Abrams, who defeated Kyle Paulson and Sebastian Rodriguez of the United States, 21-18 and 21-14.

In the semifinals, also held on Thursday at Juan Dolio beach, the Antilleans dominated Gannett and Abrams in disputed sets of 21-18 and 21-19. Calles and Onishchenko got the better of Paulson and Sebastian (21-18, 21-19).

Amanda and Maykelin made their international debut as a couple, overcoming in the final the Americans Sierra Caffo and Ella Larkin in a hard-fought match that they sealed with scores of 21-19 and 21-18.

In the semifinals they overcame the resistance of Canadians Katarina Pantovic and Erika Vermette in the second set. They defeated them with sets of 21-13 and 24-22 after 42 minutes of battle.

The bronze prize went to the Americans Maple and Hodel, who defeated their Canadian neighbors Pantovic and Vermette (21-11 and 21-17).

The Cuban duos will remain in the same scenario to play from this Friday the final phase of the Norceca circuit, which will give double points for the ranking.
