Cubans prepare for last beach volleyball events

Top duos to attend two tournaments in the Dominican Republic

The main Cuban beach volleyball teams are preparing to attend the last events of the North, Central American, and Caribbean Volleyball Confederation (Norceca) in 2023.

Leading the Antillean representation are Jorge Luis Alayo and Noslen Diaz, silver medalists at the XIX Pan American Games in Santiago 2023 and bronze medalists at the XXIV Central American and Caribbean Games in San Salvador 2023.

In the women’s division, the leaders of the team Amanda Armenteros and Maykeline Driken are currently undergoing an interesting training camp in Camagüey with their teacher Alain Hernández.

«The objective of the stay is for them to play with men’s duos of greater stature, to demand the maximum from them so that they can raise their level,» explained Osvaldo Martínez Arias, methodologist of the national commission of this sport, before pointing out that in the capital of Agramontina, they have the support of the provincial management of Inder, the Eide and coaches, and players.

Meanwhile, Alayo and Diaz remain in the National Volleyball School under the guidance of Francisco Alvarez Cutiño and Walfrido Salas. «This duo has no rivals in Cuba other than themselves. Neither is the second pair at the moment. That is why they keep preparing in the capital,» Martinez pointed out.

Both pairs will take part in an under-23 tournament from December 7 to 11, and in the sixth and final phase of the Norceca circuit, scheduled for December 14 to 18 at Juan Dolio beach in the Dominican Republic.
