Cuban youth reaffirm their vocation through Fidel (+Photos)

Accompanied by Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) and President of the Republic, Cuban youth today ratified the will to maintain the legacy and work of Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, on the eighth anniversary of his physical disappearance.

The tribute of remembrance was also attended by members of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the PCC Esteban Lazo Hernández, president of the National Assembly of People’s Power; Roberto Morales Ojeda, secretary of Organisation of the Central Committee, as well as the Commander of the Revolution Ramiro Valdés Menéndez, deputy prime minister, the Commander of the Rebel Army José Ramón Machado Ventura and other members of the Political Bureau, the Government, the mass and student organisations.

In a political-cultural evening held at the foot of the steps of the University of Havana, those present evoked the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution through poetry, song, flags, posters, photos and flowers, among other offerings of affection and admiration.

Meyvis Estévez Echeverría, first secretary of the National Committee of the Union of Young Communists (UJC), highlighted the convergence of several generations of compatriots to pay tribute to Fidel from an emblematic place and the scene of so many battles.

Eight years after his departure, Estévez Echeverría affirmed that Cubans are proud to know him present with his nature as an eternally young revolutionary, protected by the conviction of victory in the face of any adversity.

He pointed out that the youth, raised on his example and imprint, does not believe in annexationism, defeatism or regrets, and is immersed in the daily battle to enhance the work under the current conditions.

Let us continue to build the Cuba of solidarity, the Cuba that fights for peace and justice, with the conviction of the irrevocable character of the Revolution: a nation eternally young, he concluded.
