Uneac to Celebrate 65th Anniversary with «Arte Fiel» Programme

The Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (Uneac) has announced the «Arte Fiel» programme, to be held from 17 to 22 August, to mark its 65th anniversary, at the national headquarters located at 17 and H in Havana’s Vedado district, as well as locally in all regions of the country.

According to the cultural institution’s statement today on its Facebook social media profile, the programme will include book and publication presentations, panels, concerts and exhibitions, with the participation of writers, artists and intellectuals from across the country.

Among the activities highlighted are tributes organised by the National Folkloric Ensemble of Cuba and the National Ballet of Cuba, as well as the opening of the «Retratos» exhibition by students of the San Alejandro Academy.

The celebration will extend to the provinces, where territorial committees have prepared actions centred on the organisation’s history, recognition of its founders and dialogue between generations of creators.

The activities will foreground Uneac’s imprint on the cultural life of each territory, through interviews, testimonies, evocations of founding moments and reflections on the cultural policy born from «Words to the Intellectuals.»

The centenary of the birth of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, will occupy an essential place, with panels, conferences, exhibitions, concerts and audiovisual materials on his thinking regarding culture and the role of Uneac in the Revolution.

The programme will give visibility to visual arts exhibitions, artistic tours of communities, gatherings, literary groups, community projects and tributes to Cuban cultural personalities, alongside the promotion of young creators.

Special presence will be given to initiatives of the «Arte Fiel» campaign, exhibitions dedicated to Fidel, the dissemination of biographical sketches of organisation members and recognition of those who have contributed to Uneac’s prestige in each province.

The proposal seeks to highlight the living history of an organisation that, at 65 years old, continues to defend artistic creation, critical thinking, national identity and the commitment of intellectuals to Cuban society.
