The Council of State examined this Wednesday in ordinary session the implementation process of the economic and social transformations approved by the National Assembly of People’s Power (ANPP) during its Third Extraordinary Session, held on 18 June, the ANPP specified on its institutional website.

The meeting was chaired by Esteban Lazo Hernández, president of the body and of the ANPP, and was attended by Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba Central Committee and President of the Republic.

Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz reported that the 171 proposals and assessments made by deputies in the parliamentary debate had been processed, and the Government’s work system had been updated to concentrate efforts on the implementation of the measures.

Minister of Justice Rosabel Gamón Verde explained that the legislative schedule provides for 138 legal norms in general, although others may arise as part of the legislative activity linked to this process.

In line with the regulatory improvement, the members of the Council of State adopted several decree-laws, five of them related to agriculture and one amending Law 109 «Highway Safety Code», which will be published in the Official Gazette of the Republic.

José Luis Toledo Santander, secretary of the legislature, delved into the proposal to repeal Law 183, which established an exceptional four-year mandate for delegates to the municipal assemblies of People’s Power, so that it corresponds with the five-year term provided for in the Constitution.

The agenda included the examination of the draft laws «Labour Code», «Agricultural and Forestry Land Law», «Housing Law», «Organisation of the Central State Administration Law» and «System of Personal Identity and Domicile Law».

Esteban Lazo noted that deputies analysed these proposals in working meetings held last week, which allowed them to be strengthened as part of the Cuban legislative process.

Following debate, the Council of State approved submitting the draft laws to the consideration of the National Assembly in the Seventh Ordinary Period of Sessions of its X Legislature, convened from 29 July next.

Finally, the body endorsed the Declaration of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that rejected the report published on 20 July by the United States Department of State, referring to Cuba’s alleged subversive influence against that country.
