Caribbean Community (Caricom) Secretary General Carla Barnett said today that the region’s collective effort will be decisive in overcoming present and future challenges.
In exclusive statements to Prensa Latina, the Caribbean leader acknowledged that the effects of climate change, food insecurity, the struggle for equality and the development of peoples, among others, constitute the most important threats to the region and to overcome them it is necessary to walk together and common policies.
Barnett said that 2024 would be a very complex year, but in spite of many difficulties, the Caricom nations showed a willingness to work on national programmes on highly sensitive issues such as those mentioned.
The social activist also assured that the Caribbean nations feel great satisfaction in having in Cuba an important ally with whom they share a common origin and destiny and an example of resistance.
The Caricom Secretary General is visiting Cuba to participate in the International Conference for the Decade for People of African Descent: Equality, Equity, Social Justice, and the celebrations for the 52nd anniversary of the re-establishment of diplomatic relations with Havana.
