ALBA-TCP holds XXIII Summit of Heads of State in Venezuela

The member countries of ALBA-TCP will hold today in Caracas the XXIII Summit of Heads of State and Government of that regional integration bloc, during which the presentation of the Strategic Agenda 2030 is expected to take place.

This high-level meeting was announced last week by the Executive Secretary of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of the Americas-People’s Trade Agreement (ALBA-TCP), Jorge Arreaza, during the celebration of the Meeting for a World Social Alternative.

The two-day event was attended by 300 delegates from 60 countries and was attended by organizations and social movements, political parties, intellectuals, academics from the member states of the bloc and guests from Africa, Asia, Europe, North America and Latin America.

A source who preferred to remain anonymous told Prensa Latina that most of the Heads of State and Government or heads of delegations are expected to participate in the great meeting of the Latin American and Caribbean integration mechanism.

This indicated that “the 2030 Strategic Agenda must be approved″, which was presented by Arreaza to the delegates of the Meeting for a World Social Alternative and has five horizons: economic, political, social, cultural and communicational.

The source expressed that “there must also be some economic announcements”.

At the meeting held on April 18 and 19, the executive secretary of the integration bloc presented the paper The principle of unity as a transforming element and affirmed that the objective of ALBA-TCP is to achieve self-determination, that “we are free and happy with our needs satisfied”.

In this sense, he said that the strategy includes new projects to strengthen plans in sectors such as the economic, health, education, food and environmental protection.

In the political sphere, the purposes towards 2030 are aimed at establishing a network for the protection of Human and Social Rights, turning the integration mechanism into the main engine of coordination and creating the ALBA-TCP Parliamentary Network and the ALBA-Youth space.

On the economic horizon, he mentioned the re-promotion of Petrocaribe, the expansion of the ALBA Bank to create a new financial architecture, as well as the promotion of tourism alliances, among others.
The social agenda includes resuming the Mission Miracle, which benefited more than four million people in the world, relaunching ALBA as a territory free of illiteracy, coordinating educational and health policies and establishing a gender observatory.

There is a plan and an agenda and “we have to keep pace with the leaders to achieve the objectives”, said the executive secretary.

The last ALBA-TCP summit was held in December 2022 in Havana, Cuba, where participants ratified the commitment to strengthen the bloc as an instrument for the union of peoples, based on the principles of solidarity, social justice, cooperation and economic complementarity.
