Cuba closes an intense year of international solidarity

According to the president of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples, Fernando González, the movement in support of the Antillean nation in the face of the US siege and the inclusion of the island on the list of countries that allegedly sponsor terrorism brings together more than 1,600 organisations in 152 countries.

The activities carried out in 2024 included demonstrations, sit-ins, caravans and a joint effort with Cubans abroad, González told national television on Tuesday.

He affirmed that more than 100 resolutions were produced by different cities and trade union organisations in the northern power demanding the lifting of the blockade and the removal of the island from the State Department’s unilateral list.

In addition, he said, there was material support for Cuba after natural disasters and for the health system, and three continental meetings were held in Africa, Asia and Europe.

He stressed that the Marathon of Love for Cuba, an initiative of the Continental Network of Solidarity in Latin America and the Caribbean, which began on the 64th anniversary of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples and will last until its 65th anniversary in 2025, was presented the day before.

This initiative, he said, seeks to articulate international solidarity in the political, material and communicational spheres.

He remarked that the solidarity articulation effort takes place not only at the level of the Latin American and Caribbean region but expands to all parts of the world, and includes material aid and extends into social networks to make known the truth about Cuba.

González highlighted the work carried out with Cubans living in other countries in conjunction with the movement of solidarity with Cuba, which, he said, has been a very beautiful expression of support for the Cuban social project.
