ALBA-TCP countries unite in the face of imperialist manipulation and interference

Unity, which today more than ever is the weapon to defend ourselves from «the tentacles of fascism» was ratified as a necessity at the 11th Extraordinary Summit of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America-People’s Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP), held virtually, and in support of the post-electoral situation in Venezuela.

At the opening session, Bolivarian President Nicolás Maduro Moros thanked the countries of the alliance for their support and their attendance at the preparatory meeting of the ALBA-TCP council of social movements.

With regard to what his country is going through, the Head of State pointed out that his nation is not afraid of threats or of being made invisible, «what matters is that the Venezuelan people exist, are in combat and are in victory,» he argued.

Meanwhile, the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, stressed, in a telematic appearance, that «unity is the basis and essence of the invincible strength of the peoples in revolution», and reiterated his congratulations to Maduro on his victory in the elections of 28 July.

For his part, the Bolivian president, Luis Arce Catacora, joined in the congratulations and stressed the need to «promote the unity of the peoples and regional integration to confront the desires of US imperialism to regain hegemony over the countries» it considers its backyard.

He also denounced the coup attempts that have unleashed violence «on the brotherly Venezuelan people», and said that «it cannot become a political practice in our region, much less supplant the will of the people».

In his speech, Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega recalled the various actions of US administrations against progressive processes in Latin America and the Caribbean, and reaffirmed his position in support of Maduro as a legitimate president and «continuation of Chávez’s struggle».

Ralph Gonsalves, Prime Minister of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, said that the six Caribbean countries in the alliance support the electoral victory validated through national legal bodies and international observers.

In the official declaration of the XI Extraordinary Summit, the heads of state and government and other representatives of the participating nations affirmed their loyalty «to the founding principles and values of solidarity, social justice and cooperation, and adherence to the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter and international law».

They also urged the international community to respect «the sovereignty, self-determination and democratic will of the Venezuelan people».

They repudiated the destabilising plans and actions promoted by external factors that attempt to disregard the will of the peoples of Latin America and the Caribbean in a democratic and legitimate manner at the ballot box, as well as the brutal communications war that is being waged against the Bolivarian nation on social networks.

The Alliance also welcomed the decision of the electoral chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice to settle the dispute.
