3rd National Cybersecurity Conference is held

From Wednesday 20 November until 30 November, the III National Cybersecurity Conference is taking place, a space for reflection, exchange of experiences and planning of actions with the aim of strengthening the protection of national cyberspace, and creating a culture in the population in the safe and responsible use of information and communication technologies (ICT).

The current international context denotes a high level of complexity in this area. Every day, computer networks are impacted by malware and denial of service attacks1 , data breaches and cyber-attacks on direct payment systems, increased exploitation of mobile banking Trojans, among others.

As predicted by Kaspersky experts, by 2024 the number of affiliated groups in the cybercriminal ecosystem has grown, with a more fluid structure and groups changing or working simultaneously with each other, complicating the tracking and blocking of threats.

These include the use of drones in warfare and the assassination of leaders of organisations challenging imperial power, terrorist acts using explosives in electronic devices, and cyber warfare operations.

In the case of Cuba, the incidents are associated with the occurrence of denial-of-service cyber-attacks, malicious traffic generated by malicious codes, scans of services and exploitation of vulnerabilities that have compromised websites and other computer elements, deconfiguration of certain sites and, in the case of natural persons, cyber-stalking, identity theft and scams through digital networks.

Likewise, aggressions have continued using the national radio spectrum, media campaigns through hundreds of sites, blogs and digital networks to exert political influence on the population, damage the government’s image and lie about the Cuban reality, even in the midst of events such as hurricanes and earthquakes that have affected our country.
