Voluntary blood donations carried out in Ciego de Ávila

In greeting to the 97th anniversary of the birth of Commander in Chief Fidel Castro, on the 13th, a day of voluntary blood donations began in Ciego de Ávila.

Martha Méndez Mellor, director of the Provincial Blood Bank, when offering the information on Twitter, said that “what a blood donation means cannot be measured in money or in millions”, due to the altruism of that act.

In addition, the specialist pointed out that in the town of El Asiento, in the Ciego de Ávila municipality, several donors offered their arms to voluntarily deliver this liquid, this time in homage to the leader of the Cuban Revolution, on another anniversary of his birth.

Blood donation is a medical procedure that transfers this vital component from a healthy person to a sick person, to restore health.

It is also used to make hemo derivatives, useful in medical treatment of specific diseases.
