The La Victoria community, scene of important Mambí combats, was the site chosen in the municipality of Majagua to celebrate the 62nd Anniversary of the Cuban triumph against the Yankee aggressors at Playa Girón.
The meeting chaired by Misleydi Abad Modey, First Secretary of the Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, was attended by Combatants of the Cuban Revolution in different categories, including the fighter in Girón Marcelo Suarez Mantilla.
Through the intervention of those present, as was the case of the teacher Lidia Palacio Griñán, niece of the martyr Antonio Palacio Baró, victim of enemy shrapnel in the aforementioned area of Matanzas, emotional stories were revived in which the combative actions in defense of freedom.
Also in this area, poetic compositions dedicated to the momentous victory of April 19, 1961 were presented and once again the willingness of the men and women of the avilanian southwest to fight if the enemy’s ambition provided a new Girón was demonstrated.
