The National Movement of Venezuela-Cuba Friendship and Mutual Solidarity has categorically rejected the imposition of illegitimate sanctions against Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel, whom it described as a great friend of Venezuela, it was learned today.
The solidarity organisation stated in a communiqué circulating in Caracas that these actions «represent a flagrant violation of the sovereignty and self-determination of peoples in struggle,» reported news agency Prensa Latina in a dispatch dated from the Venezuelan capital.
It affirmed that Díaz-Canel, alongside Presidents Nicolás Maduro and Daniel Ortega of Nicaragua, among others, embody anti-imperialist resistance in the region, courageously defending principles of social justice, independence, and national dignity.
«It is impossible for these internationally unlawful actions to tarnish his impeccable record of service to Cuba and the Greater Homeland,» emphasised the group.
It ratified that solidarity between Caracas and Havana is unbreakable, forged through decades of common struggle against hegemonism and the despotic ambitions of foreign powers.
The text indicated that «interventionist measures against our brother Díaz-Canel only reinforce our determination to remain united in defence of the Cuban and Bolivarian Revolution.»
It further reaffirmed that Donald Trump’s government lacks the moral standing for such sanctions, and that no slander nor the pathological obsession of figures like US Secretary of State Marco Rubio will break the will of the Cuban and Venezuelan peoples.
«History,» it declared, «will judge the enemies of peace, while Cuba and Venezuela will continue writing pages of dignity and victory.»
The Friendship Movement denounced «before the world the hypocrisy» of those who accuse Cuba and Venezuela of alleged violations while simultaneously financing coups d’état, promoting criminal sanctions, and economically suffocating entire nations to serve their geopolitical interests.
It maintained that «Comrade Díaz-Canel is a legitimate leader, elected by his people, and his commitment to the humble is unquestionable.»
«We shall not recognise any illegitimate measures against him, for we support his struggle and that of the entire Cuban people, who have repeatedly demonstrated their capacity to resist and triumph over adversity,» it stated.
In this regard, it invited social movements, popular organisations, political and solidarity groups, and progressive governments worldwide to unite in firmly rejecting this new aggression by the United States government.
It underscored that the friendship between both nations stands as a bulwark of hope for peoples yearning for a future free from imperial domination, and reaffirmed their commitment to tirelessly strengthen Latin American and Caribbean unity under the ideals of Simón Bolívar, José Martí, Fidel Castro, and Hugo Chávez.
