Vegueros cling to top spot in National Baseball Series

Vegueros of Pinar del Río beat Isla de la Juventud 14-2 on Sunday to move to the top of the 63rd Serie Nacional de Beisbol, which dropped the curtains on its ninth individual match-ups.

In their Capitán San Luis stadium, mentor Alexander Urquiola’s team hit a whopping 19 hits, including home runs by Jorge Yoan Rojas and the twelfth by former major-leaguer Alexei Ramírez, who towed in three runs and reached a tournament-leading 50. Third win for Branlis Rodríguez.

Meanwhile, the reigning champions Las Tunas blanked Santiago de Cuba 7×0 in a game that left 22 runners on base. The left-hander Eliander Bravo scattered four hits in five innings and signed his second smile.

At bat for the Leñadores Tunas, who hit 12 hits and remain in second place, Denis Peña stood out with 5-3, with a double, triple and four runs.

Ciego de Ávila beat Villa Clara 7×4, who continued to play poorly defensively and committed five errors. The Tigers scored four runs in the third chapter, with six hits, including a home run by Rubén Valdés, who hit a 5-2 game-winning run and signed two runs.
