In order to promote short-cycle crops, the current cold season in the Avila municipality of Morón has as an essential component the sowing of sweet potatoes, a foodstuff coveted by a large part of the population and easy to handle in the different stages from its planting in the areas provided.
Although the level of inputs is insufficient for such tasks, in the territory they appeal to the ingenuity and the will of the producers, who, with plenty of experience, achieve significant figures to fill markets and squares.
At the same time, banana plantations are being renewed at this stage, a crop which, although not a short-cycle crop, allows for the ever-increasing demand for a product that is also a consumer favourite.
During the current cold season, producers are taking advantage of the occasion to grow other crops, such as malanga and cassava, which in the long term will occupy important areas for sale to the population.
