With only a few days until the start of the 2025-2026 school year, the province of Ciego de Ávila has as a priority the search for alternatives to supply the deficit of teachers, because, despite efforts, emblematic schools of the territory still suffer from a lack of key teachers, such as those for Maths and Spanish.
“It is very sad for the family to arrive at a classroom and not find the teacher (…). Education for us is a right,” affirmed Yuniasky Crespo Baquero, head of the Department of Attention to the Social Sector of the Central Committee of the Party (CCPCC), who, alongside the Minister of Education, Naima Trujillo Barreto, toured educational institutions of the province, and participated in a working meeting, where preparations for the beginning of the teaching period in General Education were checked.
In this sense, she urged not to be complacent and to seek creative solutions, even without the necessary university graduates, appealing to the commitment of the community.
During the exchange it was confirmed that work is underway on a “Special and Massive Call” in coordination with all organisations, seeking alternatives and local commitment to ensure the necessary teachers.
Political, governmental and Education sector authorities in the province were present.
Minister Trujillo Barreto emphasised the five priorities of the educational system for the new course: the transformation of educational and political-ideological work, the development of critical thinking and social participation of the students, attention to social problems such as drug addiction, the strengthening of the role of the school compared to other institutions, and the implementation of a statistical measurement system that evaluates the impact of these priorities.
The head of the Department of Attention to the Social Sector of the CCPCC made a call to action “Without losing a day”, and called upon the Avilanian authorities to prioritise teacher coverage until the last day.
She highlighted the spiritual and material capacity of Ciego de Ávila to carry out an exceptional course and asked for the results achieved to be multiplied.
She advocated for greater social recognition for teachers, whom she described as “heroes and heroines” of daily life, comparing their silent and dedicated work to the labour feats that are celebrated in other sectors.
The 2025-2026 course will be dedicated to the centenary of the birth of the Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, which will impart a historical and symbolic dimension to all teaching activities.
