Díaz-Canel welcomes re-election of Dominican president

Miguel Díaz-Canel, President of Cuba, welcomed the re-election of his Dominican counterpart, Luis Abinader, in Sunday’s elections.

Through his official account on X, the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba congratulated the President of the Dominican Republic on his victory in the elections, with which he will begin a second term in office until 2028.

Díaz-Canel also reaffirmed his government’s will to continue strengthening the historic relations that unite Cuba and the Dominican Republic, a country he described as a brother country.

«I express my congratulations to President @luisabinader on the occasion of his re-election as head of the Dominican Republic. We reaffirm our will to continue strengthening the historic relations that unite us with this sister nation,» the Cuban head of state wrote.

The data offered by the Dominican Central Electoral Board on Sunday night showed that Abinader’s victory was irreversible, with more than 58 percent of votes in his favour, Prensa Latina reported.
