Liván Izquierdo Alonso, member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and its First Secretary in Ciego de Ávila, called for «rethinking the fishing activity so that the capture plans are even closer to the demands of the population.»

The foregoing transpired this Tuesday, during a tour of different centers linked to production and services in the Avilanian municipality of Venezuela, among which is the Marina Júcaro Fishing Fleet Base Business Unit.

The highest political representative in this province was also interested in the strategies aimed at increasing economic efficiency and improving the payment systems for workers, while pointing out the need to establish an emulation.

Reinerio Díaz Betancourt, director of that entity, specified that among the strategies to increase production is the incorporation of shrimp boats to the fishing of different species.

He explained that the measures for the improvement of the socialist state company favor the workers, but there are still reserves to be exploited in the collectives.

When analyzing the main problems that affect the men of the sea, Danilo Casanova García, one of the more than 90 fishermen in the unit and union leader, referred to the need to complete and stabilize the crews. «Only in this way will we gain a sense of belonging, something that we have been missing,» he specified.

A turning point in the journey was constituted by the meeting with the community factors in the Júcaro popular council, where the solution of the population’s proposals was analyzed, seven of which, related to the state of the roads and lighting public, are pending.

Agricultural production and diversification, as well as the quality and assurance of the seeds, were among the points discussed by Izquierdo Alonso during his dialogue with leaders and workers of the peasant and cooperative sector in the Avilanian municipality of Venezuela.
