The Artemisa mestiza festival, from 9 to 11 August in the western Cuban city of the same name, in addition to trova and traditions, will include a poetic tribute to the historic leader of the Revolution, Fidel Castro.
According to a preview of the event, the poetic moment, in honour of the 98th anniversary of Fidel Castro’s birth on 13 August, will feature the poem Canto a Fidel (Song to Fidel) by its author, Carilda Oliver, winner of the National Literature Prize.
The Artemisa Mestiza festival of traditions will be dedicated to the poet René Fuentes, to the houses of culture and to the Kinfuiti custom-bearing group.
The troubadour Marta Campos will be the guest of the cultural programme Diálogos a viva voz (Dialogues by voice) which, led by journalist and critic Fernando Rodríguez Sosa, will take place as part of the event on the afternoon of Saturday the 10th at the Álbum Kafé Artemiseño.
Diálogos a viva voz – which began in October 2019 – aims, through the art of conversation, to hold a monthly meeting with the best of contemporary Cuban intellectuals, in order to contribute to enriching the spirituality of the human being.
According to local media, traditional, popular dance and country music, trova, literature and theatre, folkloric dance and alternative music will be the protagonists during these days.
The programme includes performances by top artists and groups such as Pedrito Calvo y la Justicia, Karamba, Will Campa, Laritza Bacallao, Tiempos de Sí and Pupi y los que Son Son in the city’s Plaza Cultural.
There will also be other proposals in the Parque Libertad, the Álbum Kafé Parque Central and the Casa de la Música de Artemisa.
