The student leader, trade unionist, deputy and teacher recalls transcendental moments in her life story, including having touched Fidel’s hands.
The former student leader, trade unionist and member of the Cuban Parliament who returned to the classroom after fulfilling these and other responsibilities, recalls that one of the moments of great emotion was touching the hands of her idol, Fidel Castro Ruz.
The event took place at the Ignacio Agramonte Loynaz University in Camagüey, where the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution presented Trifina Fernández Mora, a native of the provincial capital in Ciego de Ávila, with a degree in History, with the category of Título de Oro.
This was not the only golden award won by the Avileña. «As a deputy, I had the opportunity to attend the sessions of the National Assembly of People’s Power for two terms, which were presided over by the Commander in Chief.
«Another opportunity to share her teachings and virtues was at the Congresses of the CTC, from whose plenary sessions she returned more enthusiastic and convinced of the importance of our work as representatives of the working class,» emphasises the woman who served as general secretary of the Union of Civilian Defence Workers and of the Provincial Committee of the Central de Trabajadores de Cuba, in the territory of Avila.
She expresses her gratitude for the moments in which her work merits were recognised, when she was decorated with the distinction of Vanguard of the Revolutionary Armed Forces; and the Emilio Barcenas Pier and José Tey medals, among other awards conferred by the Cuban trade union movement.
«One day I said that when I had completed the political missions assigned to me, I would return to where I left from when I was secretary general of the trade union section, and I kept my promise, returning to teach at the Camilo Cienfuegos Vocational Military School in Ciego de Avila, where I teach Cuban History, Contemporary History and Political Culture.
«Teaching fascinates me and enables the integral formation of the students, to whom I always talk about Fidel’s human values, the importance of internalising his speeches, of applying his Concept of Revolution.
«At school events, we even perform dramatisations about issues related to his thought and legacy, which we must constantly consult and apply in these difficult times because the Comandante had a very broad vision of the problems and their possible solutions.
«What I like most, apart from pedagogy, is interpersonal communication, especially with young people, because I educate them and nourish myself with their energy to continue living».
