USA: Trump allies want another debate with Harris

Despite former US President Donald Trump’s refusal of a second debate with Democratic rival Kamala Harris, his allies today urged the Republican candidate to accept the challenge of another head-to-head.

The Democrat’s team wasted no time in calling for another showdown after the outcome of the one held in Philadelphia on 10 September.

But Trump sidestepped this possibility amid his attempts to recalibrate his campaign with just over 50 days to go before the election and as the first ballots are already in the mail for early voting in Alabama and other states.

For Sen. Rick Scott, R-Florida, a new debate would be an opportunity. «If I were in Trump’s position, I would do it,» he said.

For his part, North Carolina Senator Thom Tillis considered that in the debate they lost many possibilities. He criticised Trump’s absurdity in talking about immigrants eating the dogs and cats instead of dealing with really important issues.

The day before, the former president closed the door on a second debate with Harris during a campaign rally in Tucson, Arizona.

«So, since we’ve had two debates and since they were successful, there won’t be a third debate,» he stressed, continuing his line of personal attacks on Harris.

However, it was not only uncomfortable news for Trump regarding the debate (the polls saw him as the loser, although he refuses to accept it), as he received a legal victory yesterday.

A Georgia judge dropped several charges in the 2020 election interference case, two of which were against the former president himself.
