Tribute paid in Ciego de Ávila to those who rest in the arms of the grateful homeland

Students, workers, friends and people in general in the province of Ciego de Ávila, payed tribute this December 7 to Antonio Maceo, his assistant Panchito Gomez Toro and the fallen for the defense of the homeland.

On the 33rd anniversary of Operation Tribute, the usual pilgrimage was made to the Martyrs’ Pantheon, where floral offerings are placed in the presence of their relatives.

In this way, the more than 2 thousand Cuban combatants who died in international missions are remembered, especially the 127 sons of the province who contributed with their blood to the liberation of Angola, because death is not true when the work of life has been well accomplished.

In the ten municipalities, acts of evocation of the protagonism of the young soldiers in different acts for the national sovereignty and of other brotherly peoples were carried out. The ceremony for the 126th anniversary of the fall in combat of General Antonio Maceo, his aide Captain Panchito Gómez Toro and the fallen for the defense of the Homeland, also becomes a scenario for the support to the Revolution and the Cuban social project.

December 7 will become a day of remembrance for all Cubans who gave their lives not only in defense of their homeland, but also of humanity», said Fidel Castro Ruz, visibly moved, in the act of homage to the deceased combatants.
