On the occasion of Transport Workers’ Day, 28 June, Olga Gener Pérez, Provincial Delegate of Transport in Ciego de Ávila, made a call for recognition and resistance.
She congratulated all workers in the sector in the province, especially those who daily face the difficulties imposed by the tightening of the economic blockade against Cuba.
In her message, Gener Pérez highlighted that the year has been particularly complex for the country and, especially, for the transport sector. Fuel, spare parts and resource limitations have affected essential services such as passenger and goods transport, directly impacting the lives of the Avilanian population.
«Despite the difficulties, we cannot give up,» expressed the delegate, who emphasised the value of the dedication and commitment of the workers. «Our province has witnessed how, with selflessness, they have managed to get food products and resources to the most remote places of the territory,» she added.
A special chapter in her words was the recognition of the role played in public health care.
The delegate highlighted that, in recent months, transport workers have guaranteed the transfer of patients from their municipalities to hospitals in the provincial capital, as well as vital services such as haemodialysis, oncology treatments and specialised medical care in Havana hospitals.
The official concluded her message with thanks to every worker, driver, mechanic and specialist who, from their trench, contributes to maintaining the mobility and hope of the people of Ciego de Ávila, and reaffirmed the sector’s commitment to continue moving forward despite the adverse context.
«On this day, our most sincere congratulations and our commitment to continue working together for the well-being of all,» she stated.
