Civil Defence has reported that, according to confirmation from the National Centre for Seismological Research (CENAIS), no seismic movement has been recorded in the national territory during the afternoon of this Tuesday, 18 August.

Dr Enrique Arango, head of research at CENAIS, assured Tele Turquino that the national seismology network did not detect any seismic event during the specified time. In that regard, he described the alert that reached some mobile phones and confused the population as «completely false.»

The centre’s authorities call on the public to remain informed only through official channels and to avoid spreading unverified messages, in order not to create false expectations or generate unnecessary panic.

«In the event of any real event, our systems and official channels will activate the corresponding protocols promptly,» Arango added.
