Tigres are looking for the semi-finals of Cuban baseball from today onwards

The Avilanian Tigers will face the reigning champions Leñadores of Las Tunas as visitors from 6:30 pm today, in a difficult seven-game best-of-four play-off to advance to the semi-finals of the 63rd National Baseball Series.

The two teams have met twice in the quarter-finals, with one win each.

In Series 51, the felines from the Land of the Pineapple achieved a historic comeback, after losing three of the first four games and then winning the last three to take the match-up; while in Series 62, the Leñadores took revenge by sweeping the Avileños in four games.

In the qualifying phase of the current season, the Tuneros finished in third place with a record of 42 wins and 28 losses, while the Avileños were sixth with 41 wins and 34 losses.

There is no doubt that the team from the Balcon del Oriente will be favourites, given their tremendous offensive power and the fact that they are the reigning champions, but the young Tigres squad will be fighting hard to make it into the big four.
