Fidel’s name is a symbol of freedom, justice and patriotism, both for Cubans and for millions of people in different countries around the world, states a message from Vladimir Putin, President of the Russian Federation, sent today to Army General Raúl Castro and Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, President of the Republic.
Mikhail E. Shvydkoy, from the Russian Federation, was the bearer of the letters, which indicate that in that country they honour Fidel Castro’s memory as sacred, a faithful and reliable friend, who made an immense personal contribution to the construction of the multifaceted partnership relations between Havana and Moscow, the Russian leader says in his letter to Raúl.
He also expresses: «I was fortunate to converse on more than one occasion with your elder brother, and I will forever keep the brightest memories of this outstanding man. From the bottom of my heart, I wish you, comrade Raúl, good health, well-being and good spirits.»
In the message to the First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba Central Committee, Putin conveys cordial congratulations on the Centenary of Fidel’s birth, and recalls how the name of this prominent statesman is linked to the most important events in Cuba’s recent history, and that under his leadership they achieved great economic and social advances, he notes.
«Havana’s prestige in the international arena has multiplied; in Russia, Fidel Castro has always enjoyed sincere respect. He made an immense personal contribution to the development of friendly relations between our countries, tirelessly striving in the interest of building a just and truly democratic world order.
«I take this opportunity to reiterate our invariable solidarity with the Cuban people, and to you, my dear friend, to wish you good health and success in your state activities,» the document concludes.
This Monday, numerous voices from the foreign participants of 63 countries attending the 1st International Colloquium «Fidel: Legacy and Future», taking place at the Havana Convention Palace until next Wednesday, 12 August, came out in support of Cuba.
