The Cuban men’s handball team achieved its third victory in the North American and Caribbean Handball Championship, held in Mexico which grants a ticket to the 2025 World Cup.

The Cuban team defeated this Wednesday its similar Greenland with a score of 35 goals to 26, to maintain its undefeated record in three outings on the court and to cause the first setback to its opponents.

Already in the first half, the team from the Island was on its way to victory by achieving a nine-goal advantage, in a duel in which Ronaldo Almeida stood out on offense, with six goals.

His teammates Frank Cordiés and Maikol Vázquez, with five goals each, also stood out in the important success, according to the official site of the competition.

With this result, Jover Hernandez’s team remained the o undefeated team in the competition, so if they beat the United States today, they would qualify for the final.

In their debut last Monday, the Island’s handball players defeated Puerto Rico 34-17, while this Tuesday they beat Canada 40-24.

This North American and Caribbean tournament grants a ticket to the Men’s World Handball Championship, to be jointly hosted by Croatia, Denmark, and Norway next year 2025.

Cuba dominates the historical medal tally of those events with a title in 2018, a silver medal in 2014, and a bronze medal in 2022.

The competition will be played in a round-robin format until the 11th round, and then the top two places in the group stage will compete for the golden metal and the coveted World Cup berth.
