The legalisation of documents to take effect abroad and in the national territory is transferred to the Ministry of Justice.

Agreement 10035/2024, published this Monday in the Extraordinary Official Gazette No.3, provides for the transfer from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Minrex) to the Ministry of Justice (Minjus) of the specific function of legalising Cuban and foreign documents to take effect abroad and in the national territory.

Agreement 10035/2024, published yesterday in the Extraordinary Official Gazette No. 3, provides for the transfer, from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Minrex) to the Ministry of Justice (Minjus), of the specific function of legalising Cuban and foreign documents to take effect abroad and in the national territory.

In an official ceremony at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the first deputy minister of Minrex, Gerardo Peñalver Portal, stressed that the transfer of functions is carried out with the aim of continuing to optimise this activity.

«More than 1 500 000 documents were legalised in 2024. Since May last year, there have been no delays in the Minrex in the service offered to accredited entities, reaching the capacity to legalise up to 8,000 documents per day, thus reducing delivery times to the entities,» he said.

In this sense, the head of the Minjus, Oscar Manuel Silvera Martínez, assured the responsibility of the legal entities to maintain agility and quality in the legalisation processes.

This decision is taken with the aim of integrating and facilitating the legalisation process developed by the registry entities, law firms and consultancies, and the legalisation unit.

Both bodies have worked together to ensure that the process is carried out in an orderly and efficient manner, without affecting the population.

Camilo Pascual Vizcaíno, president of Grupo Societario de Bufetes Internacionales Servicios Legales s.a., said that the necessary measures were taken to implement the transfer, thus ensuring the continuity of this activity without interruption.

He added that the documents legalised by the Minrex will have the same effect as those that from now on initiate the process by the Minjus; «only who acts changes, the processes remain the same».
