Syrian Vice-Chancellor ratifies historic relations with Cuba

Syrian Deputy Foreign Minister Bassam Sabbagh today highlighted the excellent ties that have united his country with Cuba for almost six decades.

During his reception to the Cuban ambassador in Damascus, Luis Mariano Fernandez Rodriguez, the deputy minister considered that the positions of the two nations towards the different issues and challenges in the world are similar and most of the times identical.

We both suffer from the unjust blockade and unilateral coercive measures imposed by the US government and its Western allies, Sabbagh said.

He highlighted the commitment of Cuba as president of the Group of 77 and China and reaffirmed that Syria will be represented at the Leaders’ Summit of this bloc to be held next December in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, within the framework of the Conference of States Parties to the Climate Change Convention (COP28).

In turn, the head of the Cuban diplomatic mission reiterated his country’s position in support of this Levantine nation in its fight against terrorism and occupation and appreciated the signs of support and affection of the Syrian people towards Cuba and its historic leaders.

He thanked the Syrian delegation for its support in the United Nations bodies, particularly for its vote and condemnation in the General Assembly of the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by Washington on the largest of the Antilles.

Both the Ambassador and the Vice-Chancellor expressed their repudiation of the crimes committed by the Israeli army against the Palestinian people in the occupied territories, particularly in the Gaza Strip.
