The presidents of Syria, Bashar Al-Assad, and Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian, today reaffirmed their common position against hegemony in the world and support for resistance in the Middle East region.
During a telephone conversation, the two leaders reviewed bilateral relations and the prospects for strengthening them in different sectors.
President Al-Assad considered that the ties between Tehran and Damascus are based on unchanging principles and mutual loyalty, and gain importance and strength from supporting resistance to hegemony in a turbulent region that is the target of historical colonial ambitions.
In turn, the newly elected Iranian leader reiterated his country’s support for Syria and stressed the importance of consolidating bi-national cooperation and implementing the signed agreements in a way that will bring benefits to both friendly peoples.
Iran is a key ally of Damascus in the fight against terrorism and maintains military advisors on Syrian territory who have been the target of Israeli bombardment in recent months.
